Home to Texas Tech University
In 1923 Lubbock took a turn for the better with the introduction of Texas Technological College (now known as Texas Tech University). The university has since grown significantly, boosting the city’s economy and culture.
In the 1970s the construction of a new university medical center (now part of TTU Health Sciences Center) and Reese Air Force Base further cemented Lubbock as a regional economic powerhouse. During this time, Lubbock also became a major agribusiness center with dozens of plants producing pumps, tubing goods, sprinklers and farm equipment.
Today, Lubbock is a cultural hub with a strong arts community and several museums.
